  • Attention Span, focus & concentration
  • Self-motivation
  • Self-confidence
  • Visual Perception
  • Increased productivity
  • Social skills
  • Spatial Relations
  • Perseverance
  • Relaxation
  • Disconnect from Gadgets
  • Increase your IQ and many more
  • Problem solving skill:

To solve the puzzles, you take different approaches to fix it, since it is a trial and error test. You also learn the value of formulating theories, testing hypotheses, and changing your perspectives when something doesn't go as planned. These skills can be transferred to work, making you more efficient in problem solving, critical thinking, and better adaptive skills.

    Attention Span, focus and concentration:

Have you ever noticed that when a child puts a jigsaw puzzle together they are sitting still for a few minutes longer than usual and they appear to be lost in what they are doing? This activity is an excellent one for getting a child to focus all their attention, without getting distracted, and it’s one that can slowly train a child to concentrate for longer and longer periods. With many other activities, a child can begin and stop as soon as the mood strikes. A puzzle, however, is not complete until every piece has been built. This creates motivation for a child to keep going until it is complete, along with a sense of achievement.

    Self-motivation:

Solving puzzles has a great benefit, it increases brain production of dopamine. This neurotransmitter is responsible for regulating mood, memory, concentration and optimism. Dopamine is released every time we do a puzzle and even every time we put a piece in the right place. This encourages us to continue to do so and challenge ourselves, self-motivated.

    Self-confidence:

Playing with puzzles is a great way to encourage independent play. It’s an activity that doesn’t need adult intervention, and it can be happily done without peers. This can help children learn to entertain themselves, especially when they are young and constantly seeking adult attention. Being able to complete a puzzle is a huge confidence booster for a child, especially since they did it all on their own.

    Visual Perception:

When we build puzzles, our eyes are seeing the shapes, images and forms on the pieces and this information is sent to the brain, to interpret it. This is called visual perception. Without this skill, you would not know or understand why two pieces should connect together, or how they form a part of the bigger picture. Puzzles build several aspects of visual perception such as: • Visual memory – The ability to remember what is seen. • Visual discrimination – Seeing similarities and differences in things. • Visual comprehension – Making sense of what you see. • Perception of shapes – Recognizing common shapes. • Visual analysis and synthesis – Seeing patterns and putting them together. • Visual closure – The ability to identify what an object is by seeing part of it (e.g. a piece of an eye on a puzzle piece).

    Increased productivity:

When you are happier and less stressed, it is easier to focus. When your concentration improves, your productivity skyrockets. If you're having trouble staying focused on your studies or work, consider taking a short break to do a puzzle and reset your brain.

    Develops social skill:

when kids can work on puzzles together it helps them improve their social skill like ability to cooperate and teamwork.

    Spatial Relations:

During puzzle play, we learn to see patterns and shapes, in the pieces as well as in the complete picture. Developing spatial relations is about learning how objects are positioned in space, relative to each other. This is used in Maths and engineering concepts.

    Perseverance:

A child who is dedicated to completing their puzzle and goes on to finish it, even though it requires concentrating for longer than they usually can, is a child who is developing perseverance. This is a skill that is useful in every aspect of school and life after school. Kids also need to get past the frustration of not matching the correct pieces and making several mistakes, in order to build a bit of grit and determination.

    Disconnect from Gadgets:

Puzzling is also a low-stakes, high-reward way to disconnect from devices and reconnect with yourself, or loved ones.

    For adults:

Puzzling is a mental workout that stimulates both sides of the brain—the left, or more logical side, and your right, or more creative side. Keeping your brain active can delay symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Medical studies have shown that keeping the mind active through puzzles and other problem-solving activities can reduce the amount of brain cell damage that occurs in Alzheimer's patients. It also supports the growth of new nerve cells and strengthens the connections between them. Researchers have also found a relationship between the number of years someone has been solving puzzles and the probability that they will develop Alzheimer's. So the sooner you start making puzzles a regular part of your life, the better. It is never too late to start protecting your brain. Puzzle building releases stress, encourages mindfulness and is a good way to calm down. Our brains go from "Beta" or awake, to a state of "Alpha" when you are assembling puzzles. The Alpha state is similar to the state we are in when we are dreaming. This shift in consciousness comes with many benefits, including:

  • Ability to make deeper connections
  • Improve our mood
  • Increase our memory
  • Relieves stress
  • Even lower your blood pressure and heart rate
